Elevate, Indeed

As a "founding member" of eleVAte I've been invited to a super rad, totally het pajama party by Virgin America!

"We're hosting the first-ever in-flight Victoria’s Secret Supermodel PJ Party… and you could be there!

Because you are an eleVAte Founding Member, we’re telling you before anyone else, so you have a head start to book and reserve your ticket on our hottest flight yet."

Forget McClurkin, all I need is a Vicotoria's Secret PJ Party and all be all sorts of hetero!
Whoohoo! Where's that Vjajay?

Barack Obama Throws Gays Under The Bus

That didn't take long. sigh.

Barack Obama, in an effort to court "religious" conservatives, goes on gospel tour with pastor that cruasades against "curse of homosexuality"

Consider my endorsment of Obama withdrawn.

Let's see, I can't endorse Clinton because I feel she would embrace Bush's crusade for the unitary executive (you know the one where the president signs hundreds of "signing statements" stating the president does not have to obey the laws passed by congress)? Yeah, that.

Obama out because he feels it's okay to throw the gays under a bus.

This country has serious problems.

SoCal Burns. Again

Being born and raised in Southern California, wildfires were a way of life, but this one seems different. My Mom and Dad had to be evacuated, along with 36,000 other residents of Ramona, CA. (my parents live in the San Diego Country Estates in the story I've linked to below). They are at my sister's right now along with the dog, my dad's paintings, important papers, etc. I'm starting to think Southern California should have a new slogan, "You gotta be tough. Or well insured". Waiting to hear whether my parents house has burnt down.

Take a gander...

Features

Last week I walked into the local Radio Shack her in the Castro to look at what new phones I am eligable to upgrade. The small AT&T wall had about 10 or 11 phone to choose from, Nokia, LG, Sony, etc. As I was looking at the phones, a salesperson approached.

Sale Person: " Is ther anything I can help you with?"

Me: "I'm just looking at what phones are available."

SP: "What kind of features are you looking for?"

Me: "I want to be able to make and receive calls."

SP: "...do you text?"

Me: "Yes."

SP: "How about listening to music?"

Me: "No. I just want a phone"

SP: (looking at me like I was from another planet) "...You don't listen to music? How about downloading the web?"

Me: "I really just want to be able to call people and people to call me Do you have a phone that can do that?
...I don't care about downloading. "

SP: "Sure..."

I half expected him to ask me if I was interested in indoor plumbing (which I already have).

David Imlay

You know when you look a painting and you get that feeling...that buzz in your chest when you see art that really connects with you? That's how I feel about David Imlay's work.

I am most, if not completely, drawn to his Urban Series like, "SACRAMENTO STREET", "EAT DINER", "OUTER SUNSET", "TO THE COAST", "THE 38 EXPRESS", "204" (reminds me of growing up in Southern California), "EMPTY BOOTH", "EAT DINER PT 2", "END OF AN ERA", and "WINDOW TABLE"

You can see his work at www.davidimlay.com

The Cowards That Torture

I don't know if you have been reading the New York Times, but the paper has published a story showing how the BushCo Crooks, again, have ignored the Congress and continue to torture people so we may live in a "safe" country.

Once again, the Bush Administration has shown how truly moral and law abiding they are by ignoring the Congress and the Courts by sending sending secret memos authorizing the torture of human beings.

My cynical side tells me no one will care about this. That no one cares about deep moral issues torturing a human being brings up. I wish people would care about this, but I have read little about anyone even caring. It is the lack of concern about what BushCo does in the name of The United States of America that makes me almost laugh out loud when people claim to Christians and moral. It saddens me how we can ignore the brutality that of the BushCo Criminals use all the while claiming some moral high ground. Do people know what this means? Do people understand what is being done in the name of the United States? In the name of you?

The United State of America is not the President of the United States, it is you and me. The founding of the United States happened because concerned people were tired of not being listened to, of not having a say in how government is run. It seems we have forgotten that it takes vigilence and awareness and thoughtfullness to be a democracy. When we let a small group of people take control and run things how they see fit, with little to no regard to what is right, to what is lawful, we have lost one of the most precious ideas of a democracy. To give such control to people like Bush and Cheney, we lose what our founding fathers fought so hard to gain. Every time someone is tortured in the name of protecing us, we lose a little more of what is supposed to make The United State of America the free society we need and should want to be. We lose a part of what if means to be human, to be responsible citizens. Let's not allow our fears stop us from making sure our government does what is right.
