I've Seen The Light

I've been wrong all along, there is a god and he wants us to bomb the living shit out of small, oil rich mid eastern countries.

Faith And Anti-intellect

"We do not know. Which is why we believe"

Who said the above quote? Andrew Sullivan when speaking about god and faith.

That may be the most anti-intellectual quote I have ever read.

Stunning.

Read the whole entry so you can absorb Andrew's entire backward non-reasoning.

I'm gobsmacked.

Okay, one more morsel:

"...acceptance requires persistent distance from the truth"

I...I...uh...wow...!

No Castro Halloween - Yay!!!

As one that has lived in San Francisco for 15 years and the Castro for 8, I am very happy about this.

"City officials said Wednesday that there will be no official Halloween celebration anywhere in San Francisco in October - not in the Castro neighborhood"

As to the whole "it's a tradition" nonsense? Yeah, whatever. Tradition can suck it. I stopped going to Halloween in the Castro when I kept hearing punks always talking about why all "these fucking faggots" are around. Seriously. "faggots" in the Castro. Amazing.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out especially since Beven Dufty is trying to get business' to close on Halloween.

"But officials are still trying to prevent any festivities in the Castro. On Wednesday, Supervisor Bevan Dufty sent a letter to 110 owners of bars, restaurants and stores in the Castro, asking them to close shop on Halloween night to discourage party goers."

Health Care Crises Made Crystal Clear

Democratic Presidential candidates fielded some questions at an AFL-CIO gathering. One question from the audience:

QUESTION: After 34 years with LTV Steel I was forced to retire because of a disability. Two years later, LTV filed bankruptcy. I lost a third of my pension and my family lost their health care.

Every day of my life I sit at the kitchen table across from the woman who devoted 36 years of her life to my family and I can’t afford to pay for her health care. What’s wrong with America and what will you do to change it?

Let's recap. Man works; does everything he is supposed to do to support his family and then gets dumped at the side of the road when his old employer goes into bankruptcy which means he loses all his health care.

But as long as George Bush and Congress have their's, why worry? Right?
